Feast And Fast Like Your Ancestors
Each year for thousands of generations our northern European ancestors would feast together and hold athletic games before winter, putting on a fair bit of extra weight in fat and muscle. It was the great bulk up before the long lean of winter.
Nature and harsh winters selected for people who could gain the most weight the fastest. For this reason it is easy for many of us to get both strong and fat very quickly.
The corollary to this is our spring fast. For thousands of generations we have been selected to thrive on long fasts in spring, rapidly loosing weight while much of our strength remained.
Fasting, including extended spring fasts is in our DNA, it is a part of who we are as Europeans. As food became more secure and commercialised we have abandoned the traditions of our ancestors and lost something along the way.
We still feast, but now its year round however we seldom engage in athletic games. Thus we gain fat but no muscle. Worse we have been frightened into believing that fasting is wrong or dangerous and so our traditional and virtuous cycle of feasting and fasting has been broken.
The result is people who are fat, weak and afraid of hunger. This is not our way, it is a break from tradition and totally artificial. Embrace your ancestors traditions. Enjoy your communal feasts, test yourself against your brothers, embrace fasting and hunger. Regain what was lost.
